Publication Ethics
Al-Majaalis: Jurnal Dirasat Islamiyah is a peer-reviewed national journal published biannually in print and online by Sekolah Tinggi Dirasat Islamiyah Imam Syafi’i Jember. This statement outlines the ethical behavior of all parties involved in the publication process of Al-Majaalis, including the authors, editorial board, peer reviewers, and the publisher. This statement is based on the COPE’s Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.
Publication Ethics Guidelines
The publication of articles in Al-Majaalis constitutes an essential building block in the development of a coherent and respected body of knowledge. It reflects the quality of the authors’ work and the institutions supporting them. Peer-reviewed articles support and embody the scientific method. Therefore, it is important to establish standards of expected ethical behavior for all parties involved in the publication process: authors, journal editors, reviewers, publishers, and society.
Sekolah Tinggi Dirasat Islamiyah Imam Syafi’i Jember, as the publisher of Al-Majaalis, takes its duties of guardianship over all stages of publishing extremely seriously and recognizes its ethical and other responsibilities. The institution is committed to ensuring that advertising, reprinting, or other commercial revenues do not influence editorial decisions. The publisher also supports the communication with other journals and/or publishers where it is useful and necessary.
Editorial Responsibilities
Publication Decision
The editors of Al-Majaalis are responsible for deciding which submitted articles should be published. Such decisions must be guided by the significance of the work to researchers and readers, and must be based on the validation of the work. Editors may be guided by the editorial board’s policies and constrained by legal requirements regarding libel, copyright infringement, and plagiarism. Editors may consult with other editors or reviewers when making publication decisions.
Fair Evaluation
Editors shall evaluate manuscripts solely based on their academic merit, without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, nationality, or political philosophy of the authors.
Confidentiality
Editors and editorial staff must not disclose any information about submitted manuscripts to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, editorial advisors, and the publisher.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in the editors' own research without the express written consent of the author.
Reviewer Responsibilities
Contribution to Editorial Decisions
Peer review assists editors in making editorial decisions and may also assist authors in improving their manuscripts through editorial communication.
Promptness
Any invited reviewer who feels unqualified to review the research reported in a manuscript or knows that prompt review will be impossible should notify the editor and excuse themselves from the review process.
Confidentiality
Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. They must not be shown to or discussed with others except as authorized by the editor.
Objectivity Standards
Reviews must be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Reviewers should express their views clearly with supporting arguments.
Acknowledgment of Sources
Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. Any statement that an observation, derivation, or argument has been previously reported must be accompanied by the appropriate citation. Reviewers must also inform the editor of any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and any other published work they are aware of.
Disclosure and Conflict of Interest
Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage. Reviewers should not review manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest arising from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships with any of the authors, companies, or institutions associated with the submission.
Author Responsibilities
Reporting Standards
Authors must present an accurate account of the work performed and an objective discussion of its significance. Underlying data should be represented accurately. The manuscript should contain sufficient detail and references to permit others to replicate the work. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable.
Originality and Plagiarism
Authors must ensure that their works are entirely original and that any use of others' work and/or words has been appropriately cited or quoted.
Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication
Authors should not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently. Submitting the same manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable.
Acknowledgment of Sources
Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given. Authors should cite publications that have influenced the reported work.
Authorship of the Paper
Authorship should be limited to those who have made significant contributions to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported study. All those who have made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors. Others who have participated in certain substantive aspects of the research project should be acknowledged or listed as contributors. The corresponding author should ensure that all appropriate co-authors are included and that all co-authors have seen and approved the final version of the manuscript and agreed to its submission for publication.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
All authors must disclose any financial or substantive conflicts of interest that may be interpreted as influencing the results or interpretation of their manuscript. All sources of financial support for the project should be disclosed.
Fundamental Errors in Published Works
When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in their published work, it is their obligation to promptly notify the journal editor or publisher and cooperate with the editor to retract or correct the paper.
Final Note
This journal is committed to serving the academic and Islamic community by promoting ethical, scholarly, and beneficial publication practices.
